Photos of Lightning: 30 Electrifying Examples Posted: 30 Nov 2010 03:15 PM PST Lightning is a dangerous and destructive natural phenomenon produced during a thunderstorm. However, for most photographers, it is a beautiful creation from Mother Nature. Capturing photos of lightning is quite challenging and is also one of the most rewarding tasks. Chances are rare for a particular situation, but if you have taken the best shot, the image produced is amazingly spectacular and unique. The rules of photography have nothing to do when it comes to finding the right techniques for taking photos of lightning. The more important thing is the safety of you and your equipment. Being out in the middle of the field, under the tree, or near bodies of water is not advisable. You must be indoor when taking your pictures. The next thing that you are to consider is to have some proper equipment like a good quality camera with a "B" (bulb) setting for extended exposure, good quality film, steady tripod, and cable shutter release. You also need to keep away from the natural and unnatural sources of light around you as it could create a little contrast between other light sources and the bolt of lightning especially when you are taking lightning photos during a sunny day.
